These 5 elements are around us in nature and also within our bodies and minds. The elements are dynamic, constantly changing in influence according to season, time of day, and even time of a person’s life.
Elements influence Nature
The changing seasons are a perfect example of the five elements shifting influence in nature. FIRE dominates with heat in Summer. AIR & SPACE dominate the Fall as the wind pushes leaves out of the trees and the temperature cools. In Winter and Spring, we are surrounded by WATER & EARTH in many forms - rain, mud, snow, ice, and swollen rivers.
Elements influence the Individual
We are each born with a unique combination of the 5 elements within us and a consistent dominant influence of at least one or two of them throughout our life. This personal composition of elements forms our constitution.
Ayurveda teaches Balance
As the seasons change, so should our daily routines and diet in order to stay in balance with nature. When life events trigger change, we need to mindfully tend to keeping balance in our inherent constitution. If we are out of balance we can get sick and find ourselves mentally unhappy.
This oh-so-brief summary is just the tip of a beautiful iceberg. The basics of Ayurveda aren’t difficult to grasp and implement once you have a proper assessment with an Ayurvedic professional to determine specifics about your unique constitution.
